The State University of New York at Potsdam has awarded scholarships, grants and awards to 1,047 students for the 2013-14 academic year. These accomplished SUNY Potsdam undergraduate and graduate students were recognized for their achievements with support for their educational experience.

A record number of SUNY Oneonta freshmen spent their first full day in Oneonta volunteering in the community. New students moved into their residence halls on Sunday, Aug. 25, and 202 of them participated in the college's sixth annual Freshman Service Day the next day.

Approximately 1,100 new students, selected from more than 12,000 applicants, began their studies at SUNY Oneonta this fall. Classes began on Wednesday, Aug. 28. The SUNY Oneonta Class of 2017 is exceptionally talented and diverse, said Roger Sullivan, the college's associate vice president for enrollment management. The freshman class has an average high school grade-point average of 91 and an average combined math and critical reading SAT score of 1135. Acceptances of AALANA (African American, Latino, Asian and Native American) students were up 11.3% this year, and for the first time, AALANA students accounted for 1 in 5 new freshmen and transfer students. The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 827 students to the President's List, in recognition of their academic excellence in the Spring 2013 semester. The SUNY Potsdam students have been honored for earning top marks by Interim President Dr. Dennis L. Hefner.

The State University of New York at Potsdam awarded nearly 900 undergraduate and graduate degrees during its 2013 Commencement ceremonies on May 18 and 19. SUNY Potsdam honored about 750 students who earned baccalaureate degrees, while another 140 graduate students earned their master's at the College's Commencement weekend. The State University of New York at New Paltz will hold the May 2013 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 19 at 10 a.m. on the Old Main Quadrangle. This year, there are 2,059 undergraduate degrees being conferred.
